Terms of Service

1) Overview

LibKitt is a beta-stage SaaS that helps users search academic papers, view summaries, and organize research using third-party data sources (including OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, and arXiv) and large language models (including OpenAI APIs). We also provide project management tools, saved paper collections, and AI-assisted explanations to aid research discovery.

2) Eligibility and Accounts

The service is intended for students, researchers, and academic professionals. You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use LibKitt. Authentication is provided by Clerk; you are responsible for maintaining the security of your credentials and promptly updating any account information.

3) Services and Third-Party Dependencies

LibKitt relies on external services and infrastructure. By using the service, you consent to their use as described in our Privacy Policy. Key dependencies include:

• Search APIs: OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, and arXiv for scholarly metadata and content.
• AI processing: Large language models (including OpenAI APIs) for summarization, explanation, and search refinement.
• Hosting and storage: Vercel for hosting and Supabase/Postgres for data storage and caching.
• Payments: Stripe for payment processing; your payment details are handled directly by Stripe.
• Auth: Clerk for account authentication and session management.

4) Acceptable Use

When using LibKitt, you agree not to:

• Use the service for unlawful, harmful, or high-risk purposes (medical, legal, clinical, or safety-critical decisions).
• Abuse, scrape, or overload third-party APIs (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, arXiv, OpenAI) beyond their permitted use.
• Attempt to bypass security controls, probe infrastructure, or interfere with other users.
• Upload malicious content, violate intellectual property rights, or misrepresent authorship.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service without our prior written consent.

5) AI, Research Output, and Accuracy

AI-generated text may be incorrect, incomplete, outdated, or biased. Summaries are for convenience only and must be verified against the original paper or source. Do not rely on the service for medical, legal, safety, or other high-stakes decisions. You are responsible for evaluating the suitability of any output for your use case.

6) Payments and Subscriptions

Paid features, if offered, are billed through Stripe. Prices, trials, and promotional terms may change. Taxes may apply. Failed payments may result in suspension or downgrade. Refund requests will be handled in our discretion where permitted by law.

7) Data, Privacy, and Security

We store account data, saved papers, project metadata, and search history in Supabase/Postgres. Hosting is provided by Vercel. We log consent versions and timestamps to demonstrate acceptance. We do not sell personal data. Please review our Privacy Policy for details on what we collect, how we use it (including AI processing), and how you can delete your account or exercise privacy rights (including GDPR/EEA rights where applicable).

8) Availability and Changes

Because LibKitt is in beta, features, performance, and availability may change without notice. We may update these Terms, the Privacy Policy, or the versions shown above. Material changes will be communicated, and we may require renewed acceptance.

9) Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

LibKitt is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind (express or implied), including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, LibKitt and its affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the service.

10) Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LibKitt, its affiliates, and service providers from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights.

11) Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States (and, where applicable, the laws of the state in which LibKitt is organized), without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in the United States. Residents of the EU/UK/EEA retain any non-waivable rights under applicable consumer protection laws.

12) Account Deletion and Termination

You may delete your account at any time (or request deletion via support). We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, suspected misuse, non-payment, or to comply with legal obligations. Termination does not relieve you of any accrued payment obligations.
